This year, High Holy Day services will be celebrated online.
Jewish tradition teaches that we should never risk our lives and our health in the celebration of the High Holy Days. We are taught instead that it is our obligation to protect the vulnerable and to ensure we do not lead our people to inadvertently endanger themselves or others. We believe that this is the right choice for this moment, and we have embraced the opportunities of this format with excitement and creativity.
Although we cannot be together in person because of the restrictions on large gatherings due to Covid-19, we will still be together "virtually." We are pleased that we are able to provide High Holy Day services free for our congregation and for a suggested donation for the community, including our Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur, Kol Nidre, Yizkor, and our energetic and fun Young Children's Services.
We have all seen glitches in live streaming, and moments when Zoom goes down. To avoid this we have recorded some of the worship elements in advance to create the best worship experience with the least chance of technical problems. We also know that part of the joy of the Holy Days is seeing the faces of our community, so there will also be gatherings live on Zoom and an in person Tashlich with Shofar sounding at Thompson Park.
This year, you will also have the opportunity to create your own special Holy Day experience. You will notice that there are sub sessions offered with each service. Included in these sub sessions are the Torah service, meditation, sermons and greetings from community members . We suggest watching the service and then watching the sub sessions that interest you. All events will remain available after they have aired for you to enjoy at your leisure.
Once registered with the platform we're using for the High Holy Days, you will be able to send messages to other congregants and you will get updates whenever the service schedule is updated. Members register on the site using the email in the system at Temple Shaari Emeth (The email address that this email was sent to). An app is also available for both Apple and Android.
Please consider a generous donation to the Community Appeal and/or remember your loved ones in the Memorial Book, to help support Temple Shaari Emeth in these challenging times.
This year's Community Appeal is more important than ever, with many in our congregation ravaged by the economic downturn caused by the pandemic. Please give generously so that we may continue to provide the help that is so desperately needed.
Every contributor will be recognized in the Book of Life, which lists the names of this year’s B’nai Mitzvah, Confirmands, newlyweds, newborn children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. It also contains pictures and information celebrating the past year at Temple Shaari Emeth. By including your name in the Book of Life, not only can we acknowledge your generosity to the Temple but it also enables you to honor the accomplishments of community members and send a High Hoy Day greeting for a good New Year.
