About Temple Shaari Emeth - a Reform Jewish Synagogue in Manalapan, NJ
Mission Statement
Temple Shaari Emeth is a vibrant, inclusive Reform Synagogue Community. We are engaged in lifelong learning and spiritual searching, called by Torah to justice and social responsibility. We are bound together by Jewish heritage and traditions, while embracing our diversity. We seek to foster meaningful relationships within our congregation, with the Jewish people, with Israel and with humanity. We honor the past and joyously celebrate in the present in order to nourish a Jewish future.
What is Reform?
What is Reform Judaism? Throughout history, Jews have remained firmly rooted in Jewish tradition, even as we learned much from our encounters with other cultures. Nevertheless, since its earliest days, Reform Judaism has asserted that a Judaism frozen in time is an heirloom, not a living fountain.
Temple Shaari Emeth’s History
Temple Shaari Emeth was founded in February 1966, when nine couples filed a corporate certificate in Trenton and chose the name "Gates of Truth" (Shaari Emeth).
With almost 60 years as a Reform Jewish synagogue, TSE has a rich history in the Jewish community. See how our congregation has grown and the complete history of TSE.
Worship and Religious Life
Our synagogue is active in building a thriving Jewish community. We conduct weekly Shabbat services, holiday celebrations, and life events. Services are designed to be engaging and inclusive, often featuring contemporary music alongside traditional prayers. The clergy, including rabbis and cantors, are dedicated to creating meaningful worship experiences and providing pastoral care.

Educational Programs
Jewish education is a cornerstone of Temple Shaari Emeth. Our religious school serves students from kindergarten through 12th grade, offering a comprehensive curriculum that includes Hebrew language, Jewish history, and ethics. For adults, the temple offers numerous learning opportunities, such as Torah study, book clubs, and guest lectures, fostering an environment of continuous spiritual and intellectual growth.
Early Learning Center
The Early Learning Center at TSE offers preschool programs that focus on values and traditions, providing a nurturing environment for young children. The ELC welcomes infants through preschoolers of all faiths.
Community and Social Action
Temple Shaari Emeth places a strong emphasis on community building and social justice. Various groups and committees, including the Sisterhood, Men’s Club, and Renaissance Group, offer social, educational, and volunteer activities. The temple is actively involved in social action and advocacy through its Religious Action Center, addressing issues such as hunger, homelessness, and environmental sustainability. Members are encouraged to participate in community service projects and advocacy efforts, reflecting the Jewish value of tikkun olam, or repairing the world.
There are many ways for members to get involved and volunteer their time. Opportunities include participating in the temple's shelter program, visiting the sick, supporting bereaved families, and helping with holiday preparations. The Caring Community committee coordinates efforts to provide support and assistance to those in need within the congregation. See the opportunities at our Volunteer page.
Support and Membership
Temple Shaari Emeth offers various membership options to accommodate different needs and welcomes new members with open arms. Our Reform Jewish synagogue relies on the generosity of members and supporters to fund programs and maintain facilities. Donations and legacy gifts are encouraged to ensure the continued growth and sustainability of the congregation.
