We are sad to share that Sheldon Cavell, grandfather of ELC student Chloe Cavell, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2019.  In addition to Chloe and her father Philip, Sheldon is survived by Chloe's grandmother, Marilyn Sue Cavell; his daughter, Tara (Mark) Howard; his brother, Richard (Bonnie) Cavell and two more granddaughters, Halle and Amanda Howard. 

The family will be observing shiva at her grandmother's home (8 Center Ln, New City, NY 10956), today until 4:00 PM; Saturday, April 6, 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and Sunday, April 7, 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

We are sad to share that Lorraine Fein, wife of Lewis, passed away yesterday. In addition to Lewis, Lorraine is survived by her son Eric Fein of New Milford, CT; her daughter Nancy Barlow and her husband Allen of Budd Lake; her sister Judy Kramer and her husband Barry of CT; and her 4 grandchildren: Jessica, Sara, and Matthew Fein and Scott Barlow.

Lorraine and Lewis have been members of Temple Shaari Emeth since 1970, and Lorraine served on the Cemetery Committee for several years. She enjoyed playing Mah Jongg with friends, as well as being active with her grandchildren as they grew to adulthood. Lorraine was also a talented artist and painted extensively, having received recognition in many local competitions.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, March 31, 2019 at 1:00 pm at Bloomfield Cooper Jewish Chapels, 44 Wilson Avenue, Manalapan, NJ. Family will receive family and friends beginning at 12:00 pm. Interment will follow at Beth Israel Cemetery, 1098 Woodbridge Center Drive, Woodbridge, NJ. Family and friends are invited back to the Fein house after the cemetery.

Shiva will be at the Fein home (16 Jacata Road, Marlboro, NJ) Monday through Wednesday with a minyan each evening at 7:30 pm.

Dear Religious School Families,

Time flies when we are having fun in Religious School, and it is already time for Religious School Registration for the 2019-20 school year!  In order to enroll your child for the coming academic year, you must completely fill out our online School Enrollment Form (account log-in is required) and submitting the $110 Registration Fee per student.  Please note that we cannot guarantee your child’s placement until we receive both the completed online School Enrollment Form and Registration Fee and your Temple account is current.

This year, we are considering opening a Kindergarten class on Wednesday afternoons if enough students are interested in attending.  If your child is entering Kindergarten and you would be interested in this class, you can sign up on your Enrollment Form.  Classes for K-2nd grade students will still be offered on Sunday mornings from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m.

As in previous years, choice of Sunday morning, Tuesday afternoon, or Wednesday afternoon classes applies to students entering 3rd - 6th grade.  All 7th grade students attend Wednesday evenings from 6:45 - 8:15 p.m. and 8th - 10th grade students attend Tuesday evenings from 6:45 - 8:15 p.m.  Please note that if your child will become Bar/Bat Mitzvah in his/her 8th grade year, he/she must be registered for 8th grade Religious School.

Please help us meet the specific needs of your child by paying special attention to the sections of the Enrollment Form related to allergies, medical conditions, and learning needs.  If your child has a food allergy, we ask that you submit a FARE Form or Food Allergy Action Plan to the Religious School Office.  Additionally, if your child has an IEP, 504 Plan, or Behavior Intervention Plan, please submit a copy to the Religious School Office.

Registration Fees for all students currently enrolled and those students entering 3rd grade will be added to your family’s April Temple bill.  You can pay your Registration Fees with your Temple bill or submit a separate check, whatever is more convenient for you.  If we have not received your Registration Fees by June 30, 2019, a late fee will be added to your account.  Placements are made on a first-come, first-served basis, so we recommend that you submit your Enrollment Form and Fees as soon as possible to ensure your child’s placement on your preferred day.

Dear Friends:

I am excited and happy to share with you that after an extensive national search, Sheryn Cohen has been appointed as the new Director of Temple Shaari Emeth’s Early Leaning Center, effective July 1, 2019. Sheryn is currently the Co-Director of the ELC alongside Jayne Lieberman, and will assume the mantle of Director as Jayne retires.

The search committee, comprised of current and former ELC parents, educators, Board members, Rabbi Panken and myself unanimously concluded that Sheryn brought the right combination of knowledge, experience, energy and vision to the position.  Ms. Cohen brings an innovative approach to pre-school education in the Early Learning Center. She is fully versed in the developmental milestones of each age group and encourages each child to meet those milestones through a creative and explorative curriculum.

Sheryn and her husband, Doug Cohen, have been members of Temple Shaari Emeth since 2007, and live in Manalapan with their daughters, Rachel and Alyssa.  Sheryn has worked with the ELC, in various capacities, for nine years. In addition, she has been the Youth Advisor for YOSHE Seniors and Juniors.  We are excited to be able to work with Sheryn in her new position as Director of the Early Learning Center.

I encourage all Temple Shaari Emeth members to recommend the ELC to friends and family.  Guests are welcome to tour the Early Learning Center which serves children ages 6 months – 6 years.
