We are sad to inform you of the death of Jacob Kornbluh on January 28, 2020.  Jacob was the father of David Kornbluh & Judy Weiss and the father-in-law of Michele Kornbluh.  Jacob was the grandfather of Jessica & Braden Cadenelli, Laura & Scott Flood, Jeremy & Farrah Weiss, Kari Weiss & Rachel Weiss and the great grandfather of Daniel & Amelia Cadenelli, Kira & Ben Flood and Jackson, Dylan & Zachary Weiss.

The funeral is today, 1/29 on Long Island and the family will be sitting Shiva at the Weiss home on Long Island until Saturday.  On Sunday, 2/2 and Monday, 2/3 Shiva will be observed at the Kornbluh home, 18 Wintergreen Drive in Manalapan (Four Seasons development) from 1-4PM and 7-9PM with a Minyan Service at 7PM.

Ambassador Daniel B. Shapiro arrived in Israel on July 21, 2011. Before arriving in Tel Aviv, Ambassador Shapiro was Senior Director for the Middle East and North Africa on the National Security Staff at the White House, where he advised President Obama and other senior U.S. officials on all aspects of U.S. policy in the region. Prior to serving in the White House, he was Senior Policy Adviser for the Obama for America presidential campaign. He advised the campaign on Middle East policy and led then-Senator Obama's visit to Israel in July 2008.

YOSHE SENIORS are heading into NYC to donate food, toiletries and clothing to the
homeless of NYC.

Valerie Gallin passed away on January 11, 2020.  She is survived by her husband, Arthur, her son, Stuart, her daughter, Rebecca Weisel,  her daughter-in-law, Stacy, and her grandchildren Ethan, Jordan, Rina and Mordy.  

The funeral will take place on Monday at 1 pm at Beth Moses Cemetery, Pinelawn, New York.

Shiva will be held at the home of Stacy and Stu Gallin, 7 Molly Pitcher Road, Marlboro, on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm, with a Shiva Minyan each evening at 7:00 pm.

Donations can be made in Valerie's memory to The Maimonides Institute for Medicine, Ethics and the Holocaust.

We are sad to inform you of the death of Steven Koster on January 7, 2020.  Steven is survived by his wife, Marsha, his son Craig and Craig's wife, Joanna, his daughter Lauren Scherr and her husband, Bryan and his grandchildren, Joshua & Ari Koster and Brody & Jayden Scherr.  Steven is also survived by his sister, Sheila Kaplan and her husband, Jack and his brother, David Koster and his wife, Ampy. The funeral was held today.

The family will sit Shiva at the Koster residence, 25 Percheron Road in Manalapan (Four Seasons) following the burial on Thursday, 1/9 from 2-5PM and from 7-9PM with a Minyan at 7PM, Friday, 1/10 from 12-4PM and Saturday, 1/11 from 6-9PM with a Minyan at 7PM.  On Sunday, 1/12 Shiva will be at Lauren & Bryan Scherr's residence, 35 Stonewall Drive in Livingston from 12-6PM and on Monday, 1/13 Shiva will be at Craig & Joanna Koster's residence, 22 Concord Avenue in Metuchen from 5-8:30PM with a Minyan at 7:30PM.

The family has requested that donations in Steven's memory be made to the
Joan Dancy and PALS Foundation, 1 Riverview Plaza, Red Bank 07701 (732-450-2677), or the ALS Association of Greater Philadelphia , 321 Norristown Road, #260, Ambler, PA  19002 (215-643-5434).

Dear Friends:
Our joyful celebrations of Chanukah were truly diminished this year as each day of the holiday brought sadness, shock and anger over the continuing anti-Semitic acts perpetrated against Jews in Monsey and Brooklyn. Each day a new attack was reported, and this happened only a few weeks after the murders in the Kosher market in Jersey City. We stand with our fellow Jews knowing well that an act of savagery against one of us is truly an act of savagery against all of us.
 
The Jewish community has been victimized by senseless acts of violence and terror throughout our history.  We stand united with the Jewish community and all law-abiding citizens in America denouncing these horrific act ready to work with local partners and law enforcement officials to reduce and prevent this kind of vicious violence. Our thoughts are focused on the victims, praying for comfort and healing as they come to terms with what has happened. We must honor and respect freedom of religion and the ability to worship in peace, upon which our country is founded.
 
Mayor Susan Cohen has reached out to us to share that Manalapan Police have increased patrols around the Temple property. We have full faith and confidence that our law enforcement at the local, state and federal levels will do all they can to protect us and we have always had a strong relationship with local authorities. The leadership and clergy of Temple Shaari Emeth regularly review current security protocols because ensuring your security is of the utmost and critical importance. We continue to build upon our systems of security, continually updating our procedures and, in the past year alone, we received significant grants from the State of NJ, as well as from Homeland Security.  They are enabling us to add new elements of security within and around our building.
 
At this time, we have not been made aware of any threats to our local Jewish community. However, we ask that everyone remain vigilant and alert staff and/or authorities about any suspicious activity you witness.  Simply put, if you see something, say something. Working together we will do what is necessary to make sure that we can pray, learn, and meet in the safety of our synagogue.
 
Finally, we believe that anti-Semitism must also be fought with education. Rabbi Panken and Cantor Wally continue to work with the Greater Freehold Clergy Association and MOSAIC to build understanding, connection, and respect among those of other faiths. Our local houses of worship are a wonderful place to begin, and we hope you will come out to get to know your neighbors and give them a chance to get to know you. It is imperative now, more than ever, that while we work to secure our Synagogue, we continue to build bridges of understanding and tolerance. There is no place for hate in this world.

Though Chanukah is over, the hope it brings remains with us. The darkness of hatred can be overcome by the light of freedom, and it is up to us to light this world with tolerance, justice and peace.

Nurture your body, mind and spirit as you join us on the mat for Movement for Your Jewish Soul. We will combine movement, breath work and meditation and connect it to Judaism. Each week we will focus on a Jewish theme and incorporate it into our practice. Bring a yoga mat and an open mind, and discover the many beautiful parallels between yoga and Judaism. All levels (including beginners) are welcome.
 
First class is Wednesday, January 8th

Thank you for this opportunity to share with you about the Sisterhood of Temple Shaari Emeth’s Grand Event, Pocketbook Blingo .  This event will take place on February 6th, 2020 at Temple Shaari Emeth.  The event’s purpose is to have a fun night together as a community, play bingo and win fabulous pocketbooks.  Our goal is to raise funds for the Sisterhood and help support the members of our congregation.  This year, a portion of our proceeds will be donated to Autism Speaks.  Autism Speaks is an organization that is dedicated to promoting solutions for the needs of people with autism and their families.

We are reaching out to you, in hopes of getting as many community members involved in supporting this event for a worthy cause.  The event will include around 175 attendees from the Monmouth
