If you pay by ACH/eCheck through your bank, please check to make sure that they are mailing checks to the correct address.
Also, a reminder about how to write checks to the temple:
Please help us comply with banking rules that our bank has started enforcing. Checks should be made payable to ‘Temple Shaari Emeth’ or ‘Temple Shaari Emeth - [sub-group], or simply put the group name, such as Renaissance Group or Early Learning Center in the memo line. The bank is returning or holding checks to clear that are made payable to ‘The Renaissance Group’, for example. The words ‘Temple Shaari Emeth’ must appear on the ‘pay to the order of’ line of the check. Thank you!
Here are examples or acceptable and unacceptable checks

The recent integration has made Temple Shaari Emeth more than 700 families large. The community that we are building is keeping Judaism strong throughout Monmouth County and I am so excited about all of the happenings going on.
I am honored to announce the hiring of our new Assistant Rabbi, Rabbi Jonathan Falco. The decision to hire an Assistant Rabbi was made during the integration process. The Integration Team along with our Board of Trustees felt that our growing congregation was best served by the addition of clergy. As a newly ordained Rabbi of HUC-JiR's historic Cincinnati campus, Rabbi Falco is beyond thrilled to join the Temple Shaari Emeth family by serving as its new Assistant Rabbi.
Rabbi Falco at his ordination on May 21, 2022 Plum Street Temple, Cincinnati
Rabbi Falco was born and raised in Westchester County, New York. Eager to leave the suburbs for college, he left to study at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, where he obtained his BA degree in Jewish studies, studying with such luminaries as Deborah Lipstadt and David Blumenthal. After graduating in 2014, he decided to spend time living in Israel to improve his Hebrew fluency. After a year of splitting his time between Beth Shemesh and Jerusalem, he moved back to the U.S. to focus on serving the American Jewish community as the Engagement Associate for Hillel at the University of Delaware. Two fulfilling years later, he had the privilege of moving back to the heart of Jerusalem, this time as a rabbinical student at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. As part of his rabbinical training, he served as student rabbi to a number of congregations in the Midwest, ranging from Terre Haute, IN; Sioux Falls, SD; Bluefield, WV; New Iberia, LA; and Cincinnati, OH. In his spare time, you can find Rabbi Falco diving into a new book, working with his hands around or outside the house, or playing with his dog, Linus.
We will be welcoming Rabbi Falco at the first outdoor summer service on July 1, 2022 at 6:30 p.m. Come greet him, say hello and share a Mr. Softee ice cream with him. There will be many opportunities to meet and greet Rabbi Falco in the months ahead, and there will be a special Installation service to more formally welcome him in November. Please stay close to the weekly emails and newsletter for more information.
As a community we wish a warm mazal tov to RabbI Falco on his recent Ordination and we look forward to welcoming him into the Temple Shaari Emeth community.
We are writing with exciting news about the planned improvements and enhancements to our Temple Shaari Emeth building. As you know, as part of the integration agreement between TSE and TRT, a joint working group was formed to take an inventory of the sacred items and recognition elements in both congregations and consider how best to blend them together. The Design Committee was formed several months ago to review these items and to consider general updates, improvements and enhancements that need to be made to the temple building. A portion of the funds acquired from the merger were set aside to accomplish this, along with additional TSE reserve funds. The committee has begun working with Mark Levin of Levin-Brown Associates, who specializes in design and are architectural experts in synagogues, to create the best plan. A few things are already underway that we wanted to share.
NER TAMID: Some of you may have noticed a delightful addition to our sanctuary: the Ner Tamid that lit the way for 33 years of worship, simchas and other religious ceremonies at Temple Rodeph Torah now proudly resides above the ark at Temple Shaari Emeth. Not only is it a beautiful piece of art, but also a beautiful reminder of the joy that has been added to our congregation through our new partnership.
Design Rendering
MEMORIAL WALL: There will be updates to the memorial wall in the sanctuary including a sleek, new interactive Yahrzeit Memorial that will display the current week’s Yahrzeit from both TSE and TRT instead of the current light boxes. With the digital system, the Memorial will preserve the dignity and emotion of traditional Yahrzeit designs while incorporating new features and innovations that will carry us into the next generation and beyond. The memorial plaques that currently reside in the middle section of the wall will be relocated to existing empty spots on the wall.
NEW BACK OF THE SANCTUARY: Construction will begin on a wonderful addition to the back of our sanctuary tomorrow. As mentioned above, the design committee has been working with our architect and together they have identified a meaningful way to incorporate the simcha plaques from both TSE and TRT. A wall will be constructed in front of the existing stage to create a new back of the sanctuary, on which the Tree of Life sculpture designed by artist David Ascalon will be displayed and will join the simcha plaques from both congregations together as one. This tasteful new addition will ensure that no matter where you are in the sanctuary, there will be a lovely reminder of the beauty, support and love that emanates from our congregation. Another benefit will be the addition of much needed storage behind the wall on the former stage area. A plan will enable family members to easily locate their plaques on the expanded and integrated Tree of Life. The social hall will be fully usable during construction.
There will be a section added to the TSE website where you can go to learn the latest from the Design Committee, view photos and renderings of future plans and ask questions if you have them. As well, there will be a regular column added to the newsletter and additional emails that will share updates.
We hope you join us in our excitement about this project to preserve the important histories of both congregations while enhancing and improving our building. After nearly 50 years, she deserves a bit of a face lift.
We are heartbroken. The mass-shooting in Uvalde, Texas yesterday which claimed the lives of 21 people yesterday, and the shooting in Buffalo, New York this past weekend are grim reminders of the the dangers caused by extremism, hate, and easy access to military-grade weapons. We can never stop being vigilant in protecting ourselves agaist the visible and hidden threats that confront us. The partnership that has developed in recent years between local law enforcement, FBI, the Jewish community, and national organizations including the Anti-Defamation League and Secure Communities Network allows us to constantly review and update our building operations and practices to protect our students members, and visitors.
Temple Shaari Emeth continues to partner with our local law enforcement, Jewish Federation in the Heart of New Jersey, and other local and national organizations to keep our emergency response training, equipment and procedures up to date. Most recently we had our building security and policies reviewed by the State's Department of Homeland Security, State Police, County Prosecuter's Office, and Manalapan Police. They were impressed by the security infrastructure we have in place; but, made additional suggestions, which we are implementing. We recently applied for a new $150,000 security grant which will allow us to make additional improvements to the property to furthur reduce vulnerabilities. We regularly review policies and train staff in tandem with our security consultants and law enforcement agencies. Please understand that we do not publish specific tools or practices we have in place because that information can be used by others to learn about what safeguards we have in place.
We have completed making improvement covered by a $100,000 Homeland Security Grant to enhance our physical security infrastructure. The Manalapan Police, along with police officers from other communities, have used our building for SWAT training. We continue to adjust as best practices are updated by our local, state, and national partners. Please reach out to me if you have specific questions.
