We are excited to announce plans for a special Rock Shabbat Weekend featuring Kol B'Seder and honoring Cantor Wally's 25 years as an ordained Cantor.
Jeff Klepper & Dan Freelander have performed as the group Kol B'Seder since 1972 and are on their 50th anniversary tour. Their melody for Shalom Rav is the most popularly sung in the denominations of Judaism where many prayers are sung rather than chanted.
Whether you join us at the Rock Shabbat Service, honoring Cantor Wally on Friday, May 19th; or attend the Seminar with Jeff Klepper, which will follow Bob Dylan's spiritual journey; come enjoy the concert; or all three events, this is a special opportunity to be inspired by the beautiful spiritual music that will fill Temple Shaari Emeth the weekend of May 19th to 20th.
The "Great Man Theory" of the 19th century champions an approach to the study of history in which the unfolding of events through time can be explained by individuals of a "great" nature, often by virtue of their character, abilities, or influence manifesting in historical effect. Through the lens of Jewish history, the thrust of our people might also be explained by our prodigious leaders of the past. The famous expression, "from Moses (Rabbeinu) to Moses (Maimonides), there is no one like Moses (Mendelssohn)" encapsulates this very notion, albeit limited to a name. Join Rabbi Falco on this journey through Jewish history powered by the greatest leaders of our people, from biblical times up to the modern day. Participants will have the opportunity to drive parts of the curriculum by requesting and/or voting on particular leaders on which to focus our study as we move through the ages to today.
Annual Dues Raffle ...will take place just prior to Friday Night Services on June 16th where we will draw the winner who will receive their dues paid for next year!
Be sure you have entered, as you can WIN your entire Temple Dues for next year paid for you and your immediate household family!
There is still time left to enter your raffle tickets into the drawing.

Special Guest: Linda Coppleson Expressions of Jewish tradition span the gamut. From ritual to prayer and from art to Judaica, the products of our tradition reach deep into the lives and souls of our people. Perhaps one of the most recognizable of these expressions is the scribal penmanship of a sofer/soferet. The special script comprising the letters of every Torah Scroll is precious, but that doesn’t mean it should be distant. At TSE in 5783, it doesn’t have to be! Join Soferet (Hebrew Scribe) Linda Coppleson and learn how to form the Hebrew letters in the style of Torah script and create your own artwork to take home.

As we read in the Torah, when the Israelites built the Tabernacle, the entire community donated materials and time to build a Sanctuary for God. How blessed are we, as a community, that our Temple was built by loving hands and with gifts from the members of our community.
Recently, we began a project to replace our everyday and High Holy Day Torah covers, which have become ripped and frayed over the years. The Design Committee chose to work with renowned Judaica artist Jeanette Kuvin Orin, who has designed ten new Torah covers for us. Between Selichot and Simchat Torah in the fall, and Passover and Shavuot in the spring, the High Holiday covers will be on our Torahs. On all other days, including Shabbat services, the other “everyday” covers will be used. We are also replacing the five wimpels (Torah belts) that are currently on our five Torahs.
Since the beginning of this project, we have been blessed to have received donations for nine of the ten covers donated.Additionally, we felt it was important for everyone in the congregation to have an opportunity to participate in a “community cover.” All who wish to participate in sponsoring this community Torah cover will have their name listed on a dedication on the inside lining of the cover. There will also be a special section for students under the age of 21 to add their names by donating $18 to the project. All donations to this project will be used toward both replacing the covers and wimpels along with supporting ongoing needs in the Sanctuary through the Sanctuary Fund.
In order to ensure your name is printed properly on the inside of the Torah, all cover donations and names must be received by May 1, 2023.
The High Holy Day Torah Covers will be dedicated at our Selichot Service on Saturday night, September 9, 2023.
The Shabbat Torah covers will be dedicated on Friday, October 13, 2023, at Shabbat services.
We are excited to partner with the congregation on this project and to debut the covers in the fall. Thank you for all the ways you continue to build a sacred, safe and meaningful Jewish home at Temple Shaari Emeth.

I want to share information with you about this weekend. You may have heard that White supremacist groups are trying to organize antisemitic activities as a “National Day of Hate” throughout this coming weekend and especially this Saturday. While neither we or our partners in the local and national Jewish community or local and national law enforcement community are aware of any specific threats, we know that these groups are hoping for increased antisemitic flier distributions, protests and graffiti. We know that this is frightening; it is completely unacceptable that the Jewish community — or any community — should be targeted by extremists spreading hate and alarm.
In response to this, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) is asking everyone to join together in sharing a message of unity against antisemitism and hate.
Before the Jewish Sabbath, please be sure to let your online community know that you will not back down, and you will not be intimidated by extremists.
ADL created the above graphic to add to your #ShabbatOfPeaceNotHate posts online. Please click here to download it so you can share it. Or, if you’re not on social media, please forward this email to at least three friends to ensure they will raise their voices alongside you.
While we are not aware of any specific threats, either in our area or nationally, we are contiuing to be in communication with our partners in law enforcement and Jewish communities. Temple Shaari Emeth will have an increased presence by the Manalapan Police Department, as well as by our paid security, who are all current or former local or federal law enforcement officers; and the firm is owned by two former SWAT training offers. This increased presence has been on site today and will continue through religious school and other programming on Sunday. We constantly evaluate any potential threats.
We hope that you will join in unity to show that Antisemites do NOT intimidate us.
Believe it or not, Temple Shaari Emeth is gearing up to celebrate Purim. You can help make the holiday sweet by sending PURIMGRAMS to others. Sending a PURIMGRAM to a friend, family member, or neighbor is a sweet way to show you care.
Proceeds from each PURIMGRAM help fund the Toby and Seth Hanover Youth Scholarship Fund, which provides over $10,000 of scholarship each year to support sending our children to Jewish camps and educational programs. The importance of Jewish summer experiences in developing strong Jewish identities as adults is well-documented and a goal of the synagogue. It also helps our students make lasting memories and friends. What a deal!
This year's Shalach Manot will include a beautiful Purim Card and a gift certificate to Bagel World.
By sending Shalach Manot you can help give a child the summer experience of a lifetime!
An initial donation of $18 includes up to 6 PURIMGRAMS, with each additional PURIMGRAM costing only $3. The PURIMGRAM will include a letter explaining that a gift was made to the Seth and Toby Hanover Youth Scholarship Fund in their honor. The letter will list each person/family who sent them a PURIMGRAM. In addition to sending a PURIMGRAM to an individual, you can choose to do one or more of the following:
$36 – Send a PURIMGRAM to all TSE office staff and clergy $36 – Send a PURIMGRAM to all ELC teachers and staff $36 – Send a PURIMGRAM to all Religious School teachers and staff $36 – Send a PURIMGRAM to all TSE Board of Trustee members $180 – Send a PURIMGRAM to the entire congregation
Finally, you can also chose to send a PURIMGRAM to everyone who sends one to you (and be billed by the synagogue) or pay how you paid for your initial order.
Orders are due no later than February 23rd. PURIMGRAMS will be delivered to recipients prior to Purim.
Those who live out of the area will receive their PURIMGRAM in the mail. This year, you can also send PURIMGRAMS to friends and family who are not members of Temple Shaari Emeth for $18 each (United States addresses only).
Thank you for helping to give our children the gift of Jewish Camp! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Temple office. Happy Purim, Naomi Bressler, Chair of the Seth and Toby Hanover Youth Scholarship Committee
