We are sad to share that Barry Kaplan, father of ELC teacher Eileen Silverstein, passed away yesterday, September 11, 2019. In addition to Eileen and her husband, Larry, Barry is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Myrna; his other children: Ivy Gaul and her husband Denis, Fredric Kaplan, and Karen Bruno and her husband Bob; 6 grandchildren: Amanda, Andrew, Dana, Kate and her husband Joe, Brandon, and Mikayla; and his dear cousin, Peter Weiss.
Barry was born Born in Brooklyn, and resided in Hazlet before settling in Lakewood 20 years ago. Prior to retiring, he was a typographer for Empire Typographers in New York City. He also worked as a school bus driver, and most recently, he was a driver for Enterprise Cars. Barry was an Army veteran, having honorably served during the Korean War. He will be remembered by his family as the strongest man they knew, with a heart of gold.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 13, 2019 at 9:30am at Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, 1300 Vermont Avenue, Lakewood. A committal service will immediately follow at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown.
Shiva will be held as follows: Sunday, September 15th & Tuesday, September 17th Eileen's mom's house: 109 Golden Seasons Drive (in Four Seasons, Lakewood), Lakewood NJ 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm and 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Monday, September 16th Eileen and Larry's home: 8 Manor Drive, Marlboro NJ 2:00 pm - 8:30 pm
