6:45 PM - 8:00 PMRuth Millman is a child survivor of the Holocaust who was born shortly before the war in Warsaw, Poland. Her family hid in a mill at the beginning of the war but they were later sent to the Warsaw Ghetto. Her grandparents were taken to Auschwitz and murdered. Ruth’s family was able to leave the ghetto by bribing the guards but she and her mother were caught and sent to Lintz Labor Camp. They escaped and hid in the Italian mountains until the end of the war. They met up with family, fled to West Germany to a Displaced Persons camp, and eventually made it to New York. She has been sharing her Holocaust story with audiences for the past 30 years.
She is an interior designer, self-employed for the past 35 years. She is active in national Jewish organizations and has served as a board member of the Jewish Federation of the Heart of New Jersey, member of the Speakers Bureau of Brookdale Community College (Center for Holocaust Studies), board member of the Jewish Family and Children's Services of Monmouth County, founder of the Women's Division of the UJA of Greater Red Bank area, and member of Governor Whitman's Commission on Holocaust Education. She has received the ADL award for Holocaust education and was featured as a main speaker for the ADL in Washington, D.C.
