The life story of the famous non-conformist Jewish women sculptor will be presented at TSE by Alice Berman, Jewish Heritage Museum of Monmouth County, on January 12, 2025, 1130am. Louise Nevelson was an American sculptor known for her monumental, monochromatic, wooden wall pieces and outdoor sculptures. Born in the Poltava Governorate of the Russian Empire, she immigrated with her family to the United States in the early 20th century. For her brilliant compositions in varied mediums critics hailed her as the leading sculptor of the twentieth century. A pioneering grand dame of the art world, Nevelson's work can be found in over 200 art museums and public spaces worldwide, and esteemed private collections. The Israel Museum in Jerusalem has a work by Louise Nevelson called Homage to the Six Million. The artist gifted the wood sculpture to the museum in 1964.
